A Clinical Study of the Patella Fracture




Abstract
Forty cases of patella fractures which were treated at the Department of Orthopedic Surgery, Medical School of Chung-Ang University during the period from June 1968 to May 1977 were analyzed, and following results were obtained.
1. The peak incidence of fractures was noticed in man of 4th and 5th decades.
2. Twenty one (52.5%) fractures were developed in the mid-portion of patella and eleven(27. 5 %) in the lower pole and eight (20%) in the upper pole.
3. The most common cause of the fractures was traffic accident (50%).
4. Thrity fractures (75%) occured by direct trauma and the others by indirect force.
5. In type of the fracture, transverse fracture was most common (50%).
6. Among forty cases, twenty seven (67.5%) were treated operatively, and the rest non-opera lively.
